I have a 20% failure rate on good brand, if I manipulate them a lot. The chip was then easy to physically destroy using a knife tip to gut most of the chip out as shavings. What I ended up doing was using a flame to heat the back allowing the plastic to easily come off which exposed the chip. So no, Microwaving a SD card is not effective in destroying the data. What happens if you microwave an SD card? Even if you can’t read its contents, you can still format it and make it readable again. An unreadable SD card is not broken as long as Windows 7 detects and connects to it. If your SD card becomes unreadable, its file system is probably damaged and you need to format the card before you can use it again. The chkdsk will check for possible errors. Replace D with your unreadable SD card’s drive letter.
